The Story of Moose

First picture taken of Moose - 08/06/2011

Moose showed up in August of 2011, smack in the middle of kittens being killed off in my mom's trailer park left and right by the feral tom cats because of whatever reason.  As soon as my mom spotted her, she knew she needed to get her hands on her.  She wasn't terrified of us, but she wasn't trusting either.  It took us a couple days to get our hands on her, and as soon as we did we brought her in and set her up in my mom's bathroom.  The picture above was about five days in to her being socialized.  Safe to say, it didn't take her very long to get settled in as a Jones.  At the time I was living with my boyfriend (now fiance) and his mom, and would go over there to play with her, because I'll use any excuse to smoosh on a kitten.

My mom had originally intended to keep Moose for herself, but after the time Moose and I had spent together, she had glued herself to me and had definitely chosen me as her human.  I still feel bad to this day about that, but I had been waiting years for a cat to find me again.  My last cat that was truly mine was killed when I was about fourteen, so it had been a long time coming.

I can't tell you exactly what kind of cat she is, other than she's some kind of.. well, for lack of a better phrase, sloppy siamese.  No joke.  She's got darker points, her ears, legs and tail are all grey, as well as her cheeks.  She has one cream colored sort of peach colored toe, she's got a white spot on the top of her head where her grey blends into the cream colored fur.  She doesn't meow, in fact I think I've only heard her meow probably a handful of times, the rest of the time it's squeaks and some kind of chirpy noise.  Did I mention she also plays fetch?  I'm not sure where she picked it up from, but trust me, I was confused when I threw her toy, went back to doing something and looked down and the toy was by my feet again.  I accused my fiance of throwing it back, he denied it, causing me to roll my eyes and throw it again.  This time I watched her dart off after it and trot back quite pleased with herself and drop it at my feet.

She likes having her stomach and chest rubbed, and will even roll over onto her back and stretch her front paws up in the air so you realize what she wants.  She will also wrap her paws around my hand sometimes and pull it against her and squeeze and rub the top of her head against my arm.  I like to think it's her way of giving me a hug.  She also enjoys hanging out in bathtubs.  I don't know where this came from, but she's done it since the days of living in my mom's bathroom.  Now, if I go into the bathroom to wash my face, or whatever else and take her with me, I find her when I'm done, sitting in the tub, quite content.

Not going to lie, I've even been so in love with this fur ball that it has brought me to tears and caused me an anxiety attack.  She was being super duper cute one day and chirping at me and I honestly got so giddy and then had the thought of 'what if I have kids, and I don't love my kids as much as I love this cat?'  I freaked out.  The thought terrified me.  I know that's super cheese, but honestly.. she's just an amazing cat and I love her to the moon, even if she has NO regard for personal space sometimes.
